Farming in Mallorca
I’ve just recently returned from a family holiday to Mallorca, whilst out there I thought it would be interesting to take photos from various aspects of farming including the main products – olives, almonds, potatoes, oranges and lemons. All these photo’s have been taken with the camera on my phone.
There are no natural rivers on the island only those from the mountains caused by rainfall. Coconuts aren’t that widespread but fish as you would expect is plentiful with it being an island. The pic showing the meat and cheese was at a local market and the cheese is made from sheeps milk rather than goats or cows. Wine is produced on the island but the majority of the vineyards are in the flatlands, there however a few bodegas in the mountains like the one in the picture.
Mechanisation of the larger variety is few and far between as the farms are mainly quite small like the gateway(without the palm trees), the gateway(with the palm trees) is the exception. I happened to see the John Deere with the baler quite by chance and the Massey on the beach was being used to prepare the sand for a beach volleyball tournament. Mainly it is smaller tractors and MAN power like that seen in the baling picture. The picture of the barley field was one of the largest I saw during my visit, most fields are small no bigger than 2 acres in size!
And lastly to their culture, they still hold bull fights in Alcudia where we were but only 3 times a year the next one being a 2 day festival at the end of July.
Hope you’ve all enjoyed this short little blog & photos, if you have any questions or comments please use the comment section below and I’ll try to answer

Its good to see how others farm and make a living in other lands, sometimes taken for granted that things same as ourselves when its not. Great pics! Thanks
