DOW SHIELD 400 NOW APPROVED ON FORAGE MAIZE AND BRUSSELS SPROUTS
In addition to the approval currently on the label, CRD have recently granted approval for Dow Shield 400 (MAPP number:14984) on Forage Maize and Brussels Sprouts. Recommendations are as follows:
BRUSSELS SPROUTS
Dow Shield 400 may be applied to all types and varieties of Brussels sprouts in the spring. For the control of annual weeds apply Dow Shield 400 at 0.25 litre in 200 to 250 litres of water per hectare.
For the control of creeping thistle apply Dow Shield 400 at 0.25 l/ha for the first application at the rosette stage, followed by a second application three to four weeks later of 0.5 litre in 200 to 250 litres of water per hectare.
Application should only be made to direct drilled brassica crops after they have reached the two true leaf expanded stage. Transplanted crops can be treated once they are growing strongly and are fully established. Some chlorosis or leaf distortion may occur in crops with a reduced coating of leaf wax (e.g. due to soil acidity).
The maximum individual dose is 0.5 l/ha with a maximum total dose 0.75 l/ha per crop. The latest time of application is up to and including 9 or more true leaves unfolded (BBCH19).
Compatibility
Dow Shield 400 when used at 0.5 l/ha should not be tank mixed for use on any brassica crop.
Do not use Dow Shield 400 in any tank mixture on early varieties of F1 hybrid Brussels sprouts.
FORAGE MAIZE
Dow Shield 400 can be applied to all varieties of forage maize after the three leaf expanded stage. For annual weeds apply 0.25 litre in 200 to 250 litres of water per hectare.
The maximum individual dose is 0.25 l/ha with a maximum total dose 0.25 l/ha per crop. The latest time of application is up to and including 9 or more true leaves unfolded (BBCH19).
NOTES
The approved list of crops has recently been updated and will not appear on the label of product in distributor or farmer stores.
If a user wishes to apply to crops listed above and it does not appear on the label of the product held then he will need to be in possession of the Notice of Approval which may be downloaded from the Dow AgroSciences web site.
